DETAILS & FAQ
I’M NEW TO THE INDUSTRY. WHAT IS THE ISF AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
The Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) was established in 1994 by Joel Silver to raise the standards of electronic imaging during the industry’s shift from NTSC analog television to ATSC digital broadcasting. Its mission centered on defining performance benchmarks for display devices to ensure accurate image reproduction across varying lighting conditions, addressing the shortcomings that had plagued the NTSC system for decades.
To achieve this, the ISF focused on educating manufacturers, dealers, and consumers about proper video calibration. The organization provides consulting for product development, conducts the ISF Workshops, and licenses its ISFccc calibration technology, now integrated into displays from brands such as Epson, JVC, BenQ, LG, and Panasonic. Its influence extends to peripheral manufacturers like Stewart Filmscreen and Elite Screens, advanced video processor companies such as madVR Labs, and A/V companies like AudioControl with their ISF-certified Hyperion Pre-pro.
Since its founding, the ISF has become a global leader in upholding display standards, training certified calibrators worldwide, and setting the benchmark for image fidelity and professional calibration practices across the video industry.
Today, several ISF professionals are contributing to the development of the CEDIA/CTA RP23 Immersive Video Design Recommended Practice white paper, which is slated for release in 2026.
Through an educational partnership with Dolby Laboratories, the ISF Video Calibration Workshop is officially recognized as Dolby-approved. Groundbreaking Dolby technological innovations have profoundly influenced every facet of the entertainment industry, transforming how each of us experiences movies, television, music, and other media. ISF video calibration preserves the creative integrity of content by ensuring the artistic vision captured during production is accurately maintained in playback.

WHY ATTEND?
There is no doubt that the quality of video displays has improved in recent years. This is in part due to the ISF working behind the scenes with manufacturers to elevate their performance targets. What you will discover at the ISF Ultimate Workshop is how Portrait Displays, through their Calman calibration software, has created Autocalibration workflows for all major video brands, making it possible for rapid and accurate onsite calibrations that dealers can perform to ensure clients they are getting the video performance they read about in online reviews and on websites that do quantifiable, measurable video analysis.
Affordable pricing for ISF’s advanced calibration training, the declining cost of highly accurate, versatile calibration equipment, and Calman’s Autocal processes that soften the calibration learning curve while accelerating the onsite calibration process, have ignited renewed interest among systems integration professionals in similarly offering formal video calibration services like DIRAC has done for audio calibration.
These advancements make it easier to offer value-added calibration services that deliver measurable performance improvements and detailed pre/post calibration reports, while laying the groundwork for recurring revenue and stronger, ongoing client relationships.
Implementing video calibration positions forward-thinking dealers as leaders in the CEDIA/CTA RP23 initiative, clearly differentiating them as the integration specialists in their markets. Pre-calibration and post-calibration reports shown to clients as examples during pre-sale presentations, and included in system documentation upon commissioning, serve to validate the video performance of each installation and underscore the integration dealer's clear commitment to understanding the importance of preserving the integrity of the content creator’s intent.
Attending the Workshop earns each attendee 21 AVIXA RUs (CTS, CTS-I, and CTS-D) and 12 CEDIA CEUs, with ISF certification upon completing a post-session exam (at home and at your own pace).
